Great Glass Pumpkin Patch

Glass Pumpkins by Peter Vizzusi

I know I promised that this post would be related to my previous post, but I just visited the 14th Annual Great Glass Pumpkin Patch at the Palo Alto Art Center and I can’t contain myself. I promise to reveal the identity of the rough-textured photograph of my previous post as soon as possible.

Every year glass blowers of the Bay Area Glass Institute  showcase their glass pumpkin art. Peter Vizzusi featured a patch of  iridescent beauties:

I always enjoy seeing the traditional pumpkins, like this one by Shannon Morgan at Girl Glass:

I think this very large clear pumpkin, by Truck Dog Glass, transported Cinderella to the ball:

These earth-toned pumpkins look at home as the autumn leaves fall between them:

This fist-sized black and gold one created a buzz of excitement:

This is the first time I saw pumpkins fashioned into teapots. I especially like this one by Ken and Ingrid Hanson:

If you are in the vicinity of Palo Alto, CA it is worthwhile to visit the Great Glass Pumpkin Patch:

Exhibition runs through Friday. The pumpkins go on sale this weekend (rain or shine).

  2. I have never seen so many beautiful glass pumpkins. It would be very hard to chose one if I had the opportunity. I’d love to see the show, but it’s too far…

  5. Are you kidding me?? This is freaking fantastic!! Holy cow. Your photos do them great justice I think. I'm afraid I'll break one from here.

I was just thinking the other day about the house in town where they carve at least 100 jack-o-lanterns with help of friends, and light them on a path across their yard. I will do a post for Halloween. That's what these remind me of in a way, carefully placed in the grass as they are.

  6. I LOVE these pumpkins! They are all amazing, but I especially like the ones that are made in realistic colors. Just beautiful. The teapot is so different. Great post.

Glorious indeed; I never tire of this show.

    Dear Vagabonde,
I'm glad you enjoyed the virtual show.

    Dear PixieDust,
No, you haven't missed it yet! It just started yesterday and it runs through the weekend. Yes, it's great!

    Dear jeannette stgermain,
I agree; they are works of art!

    Dear Cuban,
    You are welcome, Mr. Cuban!

    Dear Ruth,
I know this show is right up your alley, Ruth. I can't wait to see your post on the pumpkins in your town. Here's last year's post from a Stanford art professor's yard:

    Dear Jemm,
I agree with you; I like the realistic ones best.

  12. Dear Yolanda,
I'm amazed your sister is a glass blower. Can we view her work anywhere?

    Dear Castle,
I love the transparent one too! The glass is so translucent, it looks like it's made of crystal.

The cheapest tiniest one I saw, about the size of a lime was $25 and they go up to hundreds of dollars. Unfortunately I will be out of town this weekend so I can't go to the sale.

    Dear Middle Aged Woman,
I'm glad you like them! I love returning every year.

  17. Amazing glass...
    Eat your heart out, Chihuly...
I've got to start visiting your blog on a regular basis -- our paths cross too infrequently...

Two or three years ago I think it was you who "gave me the heads-up " on the statue outside on the side of the Legion of Honor... I ran a photo of it on my blog today and S.F. Mike (in the blog comments) filled in all the missing details of what it is and where the original is... All very interesting.

  18. Oh I love hand blown glass. I met Dale Chihuly at the Musuem of Glass in Takoma, Wa. I felt like a groupie I was so excited.

These pumpkins are so great!!! I love fall, it's my favorite season. Thanks for sharing. You seem to have lots of things to see in your area.

  19. Dear Renee,
    My pleasure entirely!

    Dear kath,
You're welcome! I'm happy I bought two back in the day when they were more affordable :)

    Dear margie,
These pumpkins look spectacular in real life. They look great en masse as they are exhibited here, but I also love how they look on a table or on my mantle at home.

    Dear julochka,
They would look so great in your cozy home in Denmark!

    Dear AphotoAday,
I remember that post of "The Thinker"; it was great! Thank you for gracing these pages with your presence!

Dear A Fitness Minute with Pat Anderson,
Thank you! I love your name. Welcome to dutchbaby!

    Dear Postcards and Coasters,
If I met Dale Chihuly I would be a blithering idiot. I usually am around famous and talented people.

Yes, we have more things to do, and eat, here than any human could possibly partake in.
