Macro Monday – Painted Reed Frog

DSC08889 Painted Reed Frog
Painted Reed Frog (Hyperolious marmoratus)

Not as razor sharp as I would have liked, but I'm still proud of this photo because I was bobbing around in a canoe when I shot this.

awarewriter inspired me to post the panned out version of this photo. The foreground reeds remind me of an ikebana arrangement:

  3. Great shot. You got the best of both worlds -- close and the context.

  9. Dear CC,
Ah, but you can make it even more famous in one of your wonderful books!

  10. Dear awarewriter,
As you can see, you've inspired me to post the non-macro version of the photo to give even more context. Thanks!

    Dear jeannette stgermain,
You wouldn't believe how many macro shots I tried to take during this boat ride but most are on the editing room floor. The boat was simply rocking too much.

  13. Dear jay,
Yes, his tidy little legs made it more difficult to see that he was a frog. It took me forever to finally notice him. The canoe driver had to practically push my nose into the frog before I finally saw it. From a distance his red color blended in beautifully with the water lily pads.

    Dear margie,
Tee hee, that's a very funny comment. Shall we say she's a painted lady?

  15. I love your painted reed frog. I tried to take some frog pictures in France, but didn't get anything as special as your frog. Great shot!

  16. Gorgeous photo DB - I love how the frog is just clinging onto the reed for dear life. Beautiful colour and nice composition. Very nicely done!

    Cheers,

  18. I wanted to stop by tonight and wish you a happy, happy Thanksgiving. Tomorrow is bound to be crazy and I didn't want the holiday to pass without me wishing you the happiest, most delicious Thanksgiving ever. I can just picture you sitting around laughing with your happy family. Do tell your boys hello and happy Thanksgiving from that crazy woman in Missouri. And give Oma my love and Thanksgiving wishes. OK?

  19. Dear rochambeau,
Thank you! Yes, we had a fantastic Thanksgiving in Houston, Texas! I hope yours was great too!

    Dear Relyn,
Thanks, I'm so glad you like this picture.

    Dear Marilyn Miller,
I was surprised how difficult it was to take a clear picture in the canoe. I didn't realize how much I was moving around until I tried to fire up my macro lens.

    Dear lisaschaos,
    I agree!

    Dear Dave Ingram,
I'm so flattered to hear these comments from you because I have the highest regard for your work. Thank you, Dave!

    Dear robin bird,
No photo of yours that I've seen looks like you were wobbling around! They are always perfect!

  20. Dear Relyn,

Oh my goodness, I realize that I skipped over your wonderful Thanksgiving message. We had a wonderful time in Houston, with close to thirty of us sharing a delicious, traditional turkey feast. I especially love having the dirty rice - a true Southern treat. Thanks for your warm message and I hope that you and yours had a great one also.
