Congratulations to The Netherlands for advancing to the finals in the World Cup 2010 competition. This photo was taken last year, not far from Museumplein, where this scene took place yesterday:
I love Amsterdam and The Netherlands in general. Had a wonderful time when I visited and the Dutch people I met were delightful, kind and helpful. But, I am so sick of being disrupted in my weekly errands by the purely money grubbing faux Irish pub across the street that keeps the crowds coming by closing the sidewalks and street. They are super raucus and blow their extremely annoying plastic horns for hours. The noise pervades through closed double glazed windows 37 stories up. If I NEVER hear about the World Cup Again, it will be too soon. Here, its just an excuse for excessive drinking and noise. Can you tell I'm pissed? ;-(
Lost track of how strong the current soccor team is - anyway, my daughter who was 4 y. old when we left Holland, is following the world cup! - I guess some people remain Dutch :) Like the wooden shoes with the cows on it!
That video made me want to stand up and blow a vuvuzela! I loved it.
I'm happy for the Netherlands, well you probably know mostly because of my sisters Ginnie and Astrid.
I have two wooden shoes that my sister-in-law's Dutch father gave me, two separate Christmases, filled with Christmas goodies. I was dating his son at the time, and I think he wanted me to be in the family. We keep them still at the cottage, on a ledge. :)
Oh, and that same sister-in-law, and her daughters, dance in the klompen dancing in Holland, MI, during Tulip Time, a huge week-long festival over there.
I'm afraid I don't know anything about the World Cup (except that Spain won). I wanted to stop by and thank you for your visit and your kind comment. Constance tells me that New Orleans is a place close to your heart, too. Let's keep our fingers crossed for Lake Ponchartrain. That poor city has seen so much heartache.
What a magnificent clog shot!! It's nice to see the excitement for the World Cup. Soccer is a far more civilized game than American foot ball. I was overjoyed with the Saint's last year, that is why I can relate to the enthusiasm in this Youtube.

Dear CC, Yes, I can tell you're pissed and I don't blame you! You would think that 37 floors should be sufficient to give you peace and quiet. At least you have four years before the next World Cup. But then again, the World Series is in October...
Dear jeannette, I came to California in 1966 and I still feel a strong connection to Amsterdam and the Dutch people. I am very happy to be living in the San Francisco Bay Area though.
Dear Ruth, My son found an iPhone app for the vuvuzela. It was fun the two or three times that it worked. When you blow your horn, please be sure to stay clear of the Irish Pub that is 37 stories below poor CC. She needs peace and quiet to create her beautiful illustrations.

My kids each got a pair of klompen from my grade school teacher in Holland. I loved hearing them klomp around on our wooden floors back when they used to fit.
Tulip Time in Holland, MI sounds like a lot of fun!
Dear Constance at rochambeau, I'm not sure anything rivals the exuberance the New Orleanians exhibited when they won the Super Bowl. Thank goodness they were able to celebrate with unbridled enthusiasm before the oil disaster struck their region.
I did not buy a pair of clogs here, but my daughter bought her roommate a pair of soft slippers that looked like traditional yellow Dutch klompen.
Dear lisaschaos, Fortunately, I did not have to choose one, but if I had to, I would choose the traditional yellow wooden ones with the three "X'es" on the design.
Since the US got out early in the world cup games we are routing for the Netherlands! :)

How exciting for the Netherlands! That's alot of shoes there. I don't think I saw this shop when I visited in 2008.
