Five minutes into my drive, I quickly rolled down the window and snapped the photo above before the light turned green. Well that turned my mood around. Then I was greeted by this sight:
Do you think there is there a pot of gold between those two trees?
Only a few hundred yards down the road, I pulled over once again because now there is double reason to celebrate:
All these rainbows made be think of Israel Kamakawiwo Ole's version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over therainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?
--music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg
May all the dreams you dare to dream really come true!
Those are really great photos!! And I love that song. I have that CD actually. You gotta love that song by Judy Garland too. At least if you live where I live :) .
ReplyDeleteoh... im blind blind and more blind. Thank you for giving me a thousand loves with this magical post!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful - rainbows seem magical and your photos are terrific!
ReplyDeleteThose photographs are so very magical. Funny thing is that I downloaded that song on my i tunes a few weeks ago after hearing it on CBC radio on early saturday morning. His voice is so honest and wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous photos! I love how the grass is glowing like an emerald too! Drive safely. You know how those crazy California drivers are (except for you).
ReplyDeleteDear Jemm,
ReplyDeleteI bet "Over the Rainbow" is pretty close to the state anthem in Kansas :-)
Dear Edi,
You are very, very welcome. Thanks for the compliment.
Dear Paris,
I think rainbows are magical because it takes extremely special and precise circumstances to allow them to appear. I'm humbled that you like my photos, with you being a published photographer an' all...
Dear Margaret,
Thanks for visiting my blog! Iz was an amazing performer wasn't he? I love playing his music when I'm cooking.
Dear tb,
I was super duper careful. The first photo I took at the red light at Foothill and Pagemill, which you, of all people, know means that I had about ten minutes to get my camera out and take the photo.
I love, love this version. It was on the credits of You've Got Mail and I've loved it ever since. Your photos are amazing!!
ReplyDeleteDear Relyn,
ReplyDeleteIz has a haunting way of delivering a song, doesn't he?
my god! i cannot believe you see this from your car?!!?! absolutely breathtaking! i would love to see them in print and large! it's like you had vision! if there is a god then that is who was in those trees catching that rainbow!
ReplyDeletep.s. i love that song.. i made a slideshow of olivia with that one :)
ReplyDeletep.s.p.s i just clicked on the photos to see them large and they simply took my breath away. they look even prettier than real life!
ReplyDeleteDear Robin,
ReplyDeleteYes, I couldn't believe it myself! You're right, it does have that Moses and burning bush quality to it.
I tell my kids all the time that we live in paradise!
I assure you I don't have the talent you have in your little finger; I was just in the right place at the right time.
