I like Covent Garden very much, and all the little streets and restaurants in that area. Whenever I am in London I always try to go there, but I had not seen that bas relief. The picture is very clear.
We were in London and staying with friends in the South of England a few years ago, but had not digital camera yet - all the opportunities I missed for good pics! Have fun!
Nice Bas Relief!! Thanks you! I adore heraldry! How's it going DutchB? Hope your Sunday is good. When are you heading back to NO. Are you there now? Did they finish your kitchen?
Dear maggie, That is an excellent question and I do not have an answer. Knowing how ultra-talented those British craftsmen are, I wouldn't be surprised if this was hand-carved.
Dear Vagabonde, I spent the morning at Covent Garden and enjoyed every minute of it. I love the little stalls with antique goods here.
Thank you for commenting on my clear picture. I have to give credit to my incredible point-and-shoot Sony Cybershot. I took my daughter's Canon Rebel to Norway and had a lot of trouble getting crystal-clear photos.
Dear rochambeau, I love heraldry also and am drawn to photographing it.
It is going great; I'm happy to finally catch up on my blogging (only two weeks behind with this comment!).
I returned from a long weekend in NOLA late Monday night. We worked hard moving my daughter into her dorm room in the hot humidity, but we also had so many splendid meals with friends and family.
I hope the kitchen will be done soon. My contractor is returning from Eastern Europe in a few days. Thanks for asking.
I wonder how they make the Bas Relief- do they stamp it some how?

ReplyDeleteWhat an intricate and cool design...I really love the depth you created in the first image...just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAlways amazed me- a unicorn, albeit chained, on the UK's coat of arms!
ReplyDeleteIt's so rich and detailed that it almost looks like embroidery on linen, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteYou got some great posts from London in different angles and places than the regular ones, great photos all over in this blog!
ReplyDeletethanks for commenting on mine :-)
Wonderfully sharp photo of the coat of arms. It invites me to stay and study for a bit.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful detail in the Bas Relief image.
ReplyDeleteI've been there, DB, but I do NOT remember this bas relief. It's palpable. I want to trace my fingers all around it, like a blind person. :)
ReplyDeletebeautiful detail.

Dear Chesney,
ReplyDeleteI love the intricacy of the design too. Thank you for noticing the composition of the first photo.
Dear luluvillage,
ReplyDeleteIt does make you wonder how a unicorn came to be on this coat of arms.
Dear Relyn,
ReplyDeleteYes, or even a huge slab of white chocolate!
Dear Fotobloggen 2010,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words and welcome to Dutchbaby!
Dear michael,
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm in awe of the photo you posted today of the boat in the still water. Welcome to Dutchbaby!
Dear Kala,
ReplyDeleteI was quite taken by it when I saw it. I was happy that my zoom lens was able to capture the intricacy of the carving.
Dear Ginnie,
ReplyDeleteMe too! Or maybe take a giant piece of paper and create a rubbing of it.
Dear margie,
ReplyDeleteI was trying to count how many lions are in this image. I think I count nine.
Dear jeannette,
ReplyDeleteYou'll just have to return! How lucky that you have friends in the South of England!
Dear lisaschaos,
ReplyDeleteI just read that the chained unicorn symbolizes Scotland. A free unicorn is deemed to be a very dangerous beast.
