One of my book club sisters is going to be a grandma for the second time. Last Saturday she threw a beautiful shower for her daughter.
Michelle, The Roving Gourmet, dropped off the food before the guests arrived. The menu was perfect:: cold celery soup shooters, spinach salad, poached salmon, chicken salad, fruit salad. All delicious!

We ate outside in the back yard.
After lunch we were invited to decorate onesies and shirts with fabric paints.
Several guest thought that the baby would be stepping into Daddy's car-mechanic footsteps.
Then came the gifts, and there were many. The time moved swiftly because we played Baby Bingo with cards listing possible baby gifts. With every gift someone may ask "There wouldn't be a hooter-hider in that diaper bag, would there?" or "Could that be used as a pee-pee teepee?". You wouldn't believe the cheers when a night light was finally unwrapped.
The baby will be well dressed for the World-Series-Winning San Francisco Giants ballgames.
There will be no shortage of onesies and shirts.

The afternoon ended on a sweet note.
The tiny bundt cakes were from a place called Bundtini. Super yummy!
Next time I will share with you what I brought to the shower.

A wonderful documentation of your beautiful shower! I just love every bit of it, the game, the onesies, the flowers (glorious), the food (!), the setting outdoors which is cozy and beautiful, just brilliant. And you know why I am especially eager to know all your details. I realized last evening that there is indeed something special when a mother's daughter has a baby, perhaps more so than when her daughter-in-law does. One of my blog friends ("Grandmother" it just so happens is her moniker) reminded me that woman has all her eggs in her womb while she is still in utero. That means that my little poppy seed, now growing in my daughter, was in me when my daughter was in my tummy! How crazy is that? No wonder I feel pregant. ;-)
ReplyDeleteDB: That is one fanciful and elaborate shower. How lovely to be able to provide this for her daughter and unborn GB. I guess it's a boy? Loved my baby showers way more than my bridal. The eggs in utero Ruth brings up is something I didn't know. No wonder women are pre-programmed to conceive.

ReplyDeleteI love it! What a fun shower. The idea for painting the onesies is great. I once gave a bridal shower and asked each guest to bring cloth napkins to hang on the line, then had a basket for the bride to take them all home in. The food and those little bundt cakes look totally delicious.

ReplyDeleteI loved the little ducks and blue marbles on the table. The decoration was very pretty – the flower gorgeous. I wish I could give a shower to my daughter who is having a baby in July but she lives away and I would not know anyone there, plus she has to work to the eve of her delivery. This must have been so much fun. It was a very creative shower for sure – those onesies and shirts are unique.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. Actually we had made an itinerary. We went from Christchurch southwards and drove around the South Island from holiday park to another park where we booked a cottage beforehand!
This looked like fun but what it really reminded me of wass my own amazing dinner and "party" you had at your home for Relyn and I two summers ago! The back patio, lovely food, late night laughter:) You are a fantastic hostess yourself my dear friend!
