White Flower Farm

I got my White Flower Farm catalog this weekend. It reminded me that I have a half-written post lying around from my pre-blog-hiatus days. I’m happy to breathe new life into it now.

While I was driving through Connecticut, I saw a sign for Litchfield. I recognized the name Litchfield from one of my favorite catalogs. The White Flower Farm catalog photos are gorgeous and the plant information is encyclopedic. They sell top-notch plants and their bulbs are world class. White Flower Farm absolutely guarantees their products. My friend Renata told me that she once ordered some plants and received a partial refund because they were not up to their "normal standard of quality". She also had the option to return the plants for a full refund. I’ve never been disappointed with their products.

Since I had a few hours to kill before my next appointment, I typed White Flower Farm into the rental car GPS and sure enough, it popped up. I recognized the farm immediately from the catalog photos. I had just rained so everything was crispy clean and the soil was spongy and fragrant.

I'm crazy for the stone walls that are so prevalent in Connecticut:

Like I said, their bulbs are world class:

This one is called Tulip clusiana Peppermint Stick:

They always come up with the most amazing colorful flower combinations:

And they also know when to let Mother Nature do her best work:

If you're going to click on any of the photos, choose this one!

WOW!! Wonderful pictures.

You know, every spring I tell myself that I will remember to buy and plant bulbs next fall. Every fall I don't remember until too late. Is it too late? It's pretty cold here. Upper 30s. Do you know? Of course, I could actually call a nursery.

Dear Relyn,

I'm glad you like the photos. I'm trying on different dutchbaby banners. Let me know what you think.

You can call White Flower Farm also- they have an entire team of experts. I'm guessing it's not too late provided the soil isn't too hard to dig up. Narcissus is a good choice because they keep coming back every year.

are you telling me you got to actually drive there and visit the place??!?! o what wonderful photos!! White Flower Farm was the very first catalogue i ever had for my early gardening days. it was as instructive as it was inspiring. i knew not a wit about gardening at the time. i ordered many, many plants and flowers from their catalogue. unfortunately oregon and bulbs do not really get along that well..it is too wet in many places and not really as cold as it needs to be so bulbs tend to die out over time.

i like the banner especially because it is fall and you are already reminding us to plant for spring :) and i did click on the image of the rose hips and it really s a wonder with the barn in the background!!

here i am! yeah!! i decided to join rachel at work today for her 8 hour shift so i could have a little on-line time to visit everyone without the pressure of connection issues.

thank you diana for your loving comments and encouragement the past days while i have been so worried abut my girl. i so appreciate your visits.

Dear Birdtweets,

There, I just wanted to give you some kisses and hugs up front!

Yes, yes, yes, I actually got to walk around White Flower Farm! You must know how giddy I was when I arrived there. If you started gardening with the White Flower Farm catalogue, then you started at the top. I planted asiatic and oriental lilies ten years ago and there are still a few hanging around, sticking their necks out every spring!

Thanks for the feedback on the banner. I really wanted the rosehips because they looked more autumnal, but I wasn't able to squeeze a good banner out of it.

I hope Rachel continues to heal so that you can come back and share Olivia photos with us!

Thanks for visiting - I feel honored you chose dutchbaby during your limited time!
