Macro Monday - Oseberg Detail

IMG_2597 Oseberg detail

When I was trolling through reviewing my Norway photos for my next post, I ran across this detail of the Oseberg ship. I rejected it for the post I wrote because it was out of focus. I like how the photo shows off the original rivets and the craftsmanship of the woodcarver.  I decided to fiddle around with the sharpen settings in PhotoShop and came up with this. It's still not great, but what do you think? You can see it larger here. Should I have published this? Here's the original picture; click to enlarge it.

What great fine details and designs...I think you did a wonderful job with the processing...does look out of focus whatsoever! I am always amazed by the talents of these wood workers...this is just beautiful and so intricate!

It's definitely sharper....
did it take a long time?
It's possible that the original image at that size would have been fine...interesting to see the craftsmanship..
thanks

Dear jeannette,
I can't imagine carving such a large object with so much intricate detail.

Dear Tracy aka Ms. Bake-it,
You'll be interested to know that the Norwegians also carve many of their wooden kitchen utensils beautifully.

Dear melissashook,
I'm glad you think it's sharper. I spent about five minutes total. I chose sharpen, then sharpen edges but they only had minimal impact. The smart-sharpen feature was the most effective when I used the remove-lens-blur option and swiveled the angle. I wouldn't want to spend five minutes for every photo, but I thought it was worthwhile for this image.

Dear Marilyn,
Yes, it was grand.

Dear Kala,
It's unbelievable that they carved such a large area with all this intricacy.
