Willow Ball - I don't have a thing to wear

"Torso" by artist Robert Graham, on Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills

It's the talk of the town, the event of the season: The Third Annual Willow Ball. Dance over to Willow Manor  and you will find an invitation extended by our gracious hostess Willow.

I'm practicing my dance moves  à la dancing goddess Cyd Charisse; watch this film clip with Gene Kelly in the classic Singin' in the Rain here

Since this is a fantasy ball, I assume Willow will have the strategically-placed fans and the grand staircase adjoining the ballroom.  The fantasy continues as my date and I clear the dance floor while admiring eyes watch us flawlessly perform this dance.

Won't you join the fun?

I will be there, Dutchbaby, and I trust that you will pencil me in on your dance card. I've been waiting all my life to express myself like Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain. Will that work at the Willow Ball?

In my next life I will be a dancer . . . In this life I am such a klutz, but might still give it a try one of these days!

Living in foreign countries I'm always delighted to see how dancing is such a "normal" part of life, while in the west it sort of is a thing done by the young or practiced as a "specialty" exercise.

So glad you showed us the Gene Kelly video rather than Madonna LOL What a fun time and what a fun post!

Well, la-di-dah! You're going to the Willow Ball! I'm honored to be in your presence! You take Gene and I'll take Fred, and I just wish I could dance like Cyd Charisse or Ginger Rogers. Wouldn't that be loverly? And will you be wearing Givenchy, or will it be Vera Wang? Can't wait to see your dress!

Oh, I hope that you'll be able to manage that incredible scarf as you waft down the stairs into the arms of someone as sturdy as Gene Kelley...
have a good time...

I just heard about this today over at Ruth's blog, DB. How fun is that! It's on my daughter Amy's birthday, so it'll be easy to remember the date. I'll have to check you all out. :) In the meantime, Astrid and I will continue dancing up a storm...one of our favorite things to do every day! :)

Dear George,
I would be honored to ink you in on my dance card. Who would refuse a dance with a debonair Southern gentleman? Gene Kelly - no problem! At Willow Ball anything that you fancy will work!

Dear Miss Footloose,
I wish I was a dancer like my daughter. Nine years of ballet served her well. A couple of weeks ago, I took one of those specialty dance exercise classes you mentioned and I was a total embarrassment. It's a good thing this ball is a fantasy because I could seriously make a fool of myself, or worse yet, suffer an injury.

So good to see you here again- it's been ages!

Dear tammymcchesney,
Madonna's dancing sure improved since that first "Like a Virgin" performance on MTV so many years ago. Gene Kelly's dancing was great in this video, but I think Cyd Charisse's was sublime!

Dear Susan,
Don't tell me you're not going?! It will be so much fun. I know you've got a virtual closet of magnificent gowns! I bet my hubby will ask you to dance - and so will my virtual date, identity to be revealed on Thursday. As for who I will be wearing? Stay tuned...

Dear melissashook,
I am able to manage anything in this fantasy ball, but I won't be wearing this mile-long outfit. This is only to limber up, Cyd-Charisse style. I'll be wearing something equally insensible I'm sure.

Dear Ginnie,
I love the idea of you and Astrid dancing together every day. Are you planning to go to the ball?

Looks like a spectacular event. If I have time to work up a gown, I will join you!

Dear Constance at rochambeau,
Oh I dearly hope you make the time. We have room in the car. Shall we make it a double date?

Ruth said...

Ahh, Cyd Charisse. I will be dancing like her at the ball too. Won't we be just scrumptious?

Dutchbaby said...

Dear Ruth,
Wasn't that ball the most fun we ever had in the blogosphere?

Like you, I danced like Cyd Charisse in my red-red dress.
