Broiled Figs with Prosciutto and Goat Cheese

IMG_5247 Roasted figs with prosciutto and goat cheese

We have an old fig tree in our back yard and this is one of my favorite ways to prepare them.

Broiled Figs with Prosciutto and Goat Cheese
  • With a paring knife, slice an "X" at the bottom of each fig.
  • Insert a dollop of soft cheese into the "X". Suggested cheeses: goat cheese, blue cheese (especially "Maytag Blue"), burrata, brie
  • Wrap a slice of Prosciutto di Parma around each fig.
  • Place under broiler until the edges of the prosciutto are crispy, around 5 minutes.
  • Serve warm as an appetizer.
  • Lick your fingers.

This looks terrific! When may I come for dinner? I will have to remember this, for we have two fig trees in our back yard.

Sounds delicious! Now if my fig tree would only grow up and give me more than 5 figs. Yummmm!

Wish I had a fig tree in MY back yard. :) Well, I do have one in my sun room but I'm not sure it will ever have any figs.

OMG! I would die for one of these, DB. And Vagabonde grows figs in her yard, you know!!!

Oh my... I'm not even sure I would like figs but this sounds wonderful. I rarely see them in the stores here... I recall some time ago you asked me a question on my blog and cannot recall if I ever answered it. Things have been a bit unsettled in my life lately and I've lost track of quite a lot of the 'details' on some things while paying attention to an unsettling personal situation. (all is better now)

Anyway, if you recall what it was you asked about and I did not answer you, drop another query on my blog and this time I'll pay attention!

In addition to the mouth watering recipe, the image itself is beautiful!!!

The meal has been eaten.
The kitchen is clean.
The leftovers are stashed.
The walk has been taken.
Everyone is happy and fed and blessed.
Now I have the time to stop by.
On this Thanksgiving Day, I wanted to tell you that I am thankful for you; for this blog; for our friendship. I think of you often, my friend. Sending you much love, Relyn

Dear CC,
Wish I could have served you some. The extra rain brought a very good harvest this year, but the figs are all completely gone now.

Dear George,
Anytime! Lucky you - two fig trees.

Dear Marilyn,
Here's to wishing a rich harvest for your fig tree next season!

Dear EG Wow!
I'm not sure you have enough sunshine in your back yard to produce figs. Perhaps you can find some at your grocery store.

Dutchbaby said...

Dear Kala,
Well then, this is definitely your dish!

Dutchbaby said...

Dear Ginnie,
No I did not know that! I'll have to compare notes with her.

Dear Victoria,
I don't know whether you will end up liking figs, but I can tell you that several members of my book club decided that they like figs after all, once I served this appetizer to them.

I'm glad that your personal situation resolved itself. As for the question I asked you, I have no idea what it was either.

Hope you are enjoying a great holiday season.
