Dear Kris,
Thank you - we had a great Texas-sized Thanksgiving.

Dear Marilyn Miller,
Thank you; this tree is one of my favorite trees on a four-mile loop that my husband and I like to hike on weekends. It's a California Buckeye.

That's a wonderful little proverb. It's very true, unfortunately, at least for the nice shade trees.

Dear Jemm,
I almost didn't notice your comment. I've been in a fog for over a week now.

I was very happy when I found this wise proverb.

When my father was pretty old, maybe he'd already had an aneurysm, he planted some fruit trees in the backyard, knowing full well he'd probably not live to eat the fruit and that in Nova Scotia, fruit was not always coming....
that's a nice proverb. thank you

My mother lived in Germany during World War II. She never forgot how the lucky families had fruit trees. She has always made certain that my sisters and I always have fruit trees in our yard, just in case.

Planting a tree is a decidedly forward-thinking act.

Dear Short Poems,
I agree :)

The Dish... as in the radio telescope near Interstate 280 behind the Stanford campus? (I used to live in Palo Alto.)

I like the way the Buckeye is keeping watch over its fallen limb.

Dear Dan Gurney,
Exactly! This is my favorite tree along the path - I have taken countless pictures of it.
