Macro Monday - Burl

DSC05015 burl cropped

This burl came from this tree...

...from a slice of paradise called Yosemite National Park.

DSC04928 Yosemite Falls

My husband and I chose to go here for our honeymoon not just because it is one of our favorite places in the whole wide world, but because it is only about 150 miles from Palo Alto. We love going there to rejuvenate our spirits. We were there this spring, but now we return for a couple of days to celebrate our twentieth anniversary. I hope to bring back similar photos except with lots of snow.

Update:
Upon the advice of awarewriter, I made my first attempt at creating a black and white version of a photo:

Then I decided to give a go at tinting it:

Thank you, awarewriter, for encouraging me to try something new and for your invaluable instruction!

Wow good for you - I didn't even realize it was Monday {grin} - Margie's kids used to call them brain trees because the burl looks like a brain!

Aaaah, that's beautiful! A friend gave us a piece of redwood burl as a gift this year. It's cut so that it makes a little 3-D scene. We also have a couple of photographs (prints) of 'El Capitan' by Ansel Adams in our lounge.

So, though we've never been to Yosemite, we have a tiny piece of it here!

Simply beautiful! That's one park we've yet to make it to, but we spent our honeymoon at Big Bend. :)

I love the texture in the burl DB - very nicely done! I've just added another US national park on my list to visit - lovely photographs.

Thank you for the education...I had no idea what that was called! Beautiful pictures! Maybe you will run into my friend Ginny and her husband sometime...they go to Yellowstone about once a month, it seems. She lives near South Lake Tahoe. I visited her a few years ago and we took a trip down the coast from San Fran to San Luis Obispo and back up inland through Yellowstone. One of the best ten days of my life. We had a ball!

Dear kath,
These Mondays come around more frequently these days, don't you think?

Yes, they really do look like brains. In that case, this tree is very, very smart.

Dear villager,
Thank you. Yosemite is a grand place and worth a journey.

Dear Colleen,
Thank you! I think it's next to impossible to take a bad photo there.

Dear jay,
Lucky you, to have an Ansel Adams print of "El Capitan". I'm doing my best to channel Adams whenever I go to Yosemite. Gives me something to strive for.

I love your Macro Monday challenge this week!

Dear Johnny Nutcase,
Thank you! Enjoy your trip to Trinidad!

Dear awarewriter,
Oh my goodness, now you've truly challenged me. I will do my best to create a black and white version but I will probably have to turn to you for advice.

Dear melissashook,
It's amazing how a stress response could hold so much beauty, isn't it?

Dear lisaschaos,
Ha! Great minds think alike!

San Francisco, San Louis Obispo, and Yosemite. Now that sounds like a fantastic road trip! Happy New Year to you!

Dear Middle Aged Woman Blogging,
There's nothing like getting away from it all! I had no idea how much my spirit needed rejuvenating until I shed all my worries from my mind in the midst of all this beauty. I'm glad you had a great trip also.
