Macro Monday - Spring Daffodils

DSC05133 Double narcissus

Spring has sprung in my garden. I bought a bag of bulbs from Costco last fall and last week the first one bloomed. The sun was just at the right angle to show off the translucency of these blooms.

And here they are on the first full day of spring:

I can't tell you how much joy these bring to me as I sip my cup of coffee in the morning  but William Wordsworth comes to mind:

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee;
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company!
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

--William Wordsworth (1770-1880)

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!! Daffodils are one of my favorites. Mine are out, but haven't bloomed yet. The woods between our front yard and the road is full of them. I love to make bouquets with all the different varieties. I love the orange-y ones the most.

Your new pink tulip header is beautiful, too!!!

If anyone would plant bulbs, it'd be a DutchBaby! I love it. It means more to me this year in Holland than ever!

Dear Kala,
I agree that narcissus look very cheerful - like they are smiling.

Lovely garden! That first shot is my favorite. Also, you chose one of my favorite poems from childhood, one I can still recite many lines from.
Happy Spring to you!

Dear Tammie Lee,
Thank you! They are quite a contrast to your snow crystals.

Dear Susan,
Thank you! I would love to see one of your daffodil bouquets. I like them orange too, especially if their petals are pure white.

I'm glad you like my new tulip header.

Dear Mumsy,
Thank you and welcome to Dutchbaby!

Dear Ginnie,
Nobody does bulbs like the Dutch in Holland! I hope you have a chance to visit the Keukenhof this spring.

Dear Maggie,
Doesn't it just make everything so much more fun?

Dear lisaschaos,
I was so lucky to catch the sun just so!

Dear melissashook,
I am so happy to see you here - reading. I wish I could deliver a bouquet of these daffodils to you to inspire you to heal quickly. Take care!

Dear Gel,
I had to memorize this poem too!

Ruth said...

It's impossible to enter spring without thinking of this poem, and reading it. Your daffodils are the prettiest I've seen.

Dutchbaby said...

Dear Marilyn,
Don't they just bring out cheer in everyone?

Dear Ruth,
Can you imagine seeing a sea of ten thousand daffodils?

Thanks!

Relyn Lawson said...

They have angel halos. How wonderful! I, too, always think of that Wordsworth poem when I see a daffodil.

Dutchbaby said...

Dear Relyn,
Angel halos - perfect description!

Hi dutchbaby,
I haven't yet looked at your blog, but I am hunting for recipes that are low residue, no lactos....do you think hummus (I love it!) is low residue...tofu is a great food...any ideas you have would be more than welcomed...as you'll find out by today's blog, I'm a food primitive.
thank you!!!!!

Dear melissashook,
I do hope you will feel better very soon. You are in a tricky situation right now because it is difficult to get proper nutrition while your body heals.
