The day after my flower partner Tracy and I checked into the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, Bloomster's capable crew installed the remaining lobby flowers. Wil Gonzalez, AIFD was responsible for the lobby flowers for the week of American Institute of Floral Design's 2011 Symposium. He wisely chose to collaborate with local florist Kren Rasmussen, AIFD. He brought the seeds of ideas to their first meeting several months prior to the event, and Kren sowed them to transform the lobby into the Garden of Eden.
Guests arriving from the Fifth Street entrance walked down the ramp...
...flanked by tropical terrariums the team created inside the glass banisters.
Here is Kren moving a tall arrangement into place by the elevator bank, while his crew is waiting with the bamboo-pole armature...
...which brought these works of art to new heights.
We were plenty impressed with the two oversized spray arrangements of Eremerus...
... sago palm leaves, Asiatic lilies, orchids, kangaroo paws, and ruscus,
...but we were bowled over when an oasis of tropical flowers blossomed at their feet.
The glass containers by Accent Decor allowed the crew to easily refresh the florals throughout the week.
Bravo to Wil and Kren for taking the concept of lobby flowers to the next level.

I cannot believe how huge some of those arrangements are. Fantastic images.
I hope you laugh when I say this, DB, but all I can think of is What a paradise for all those gay guys I know who love this sort of thing! :)
You make a great photographer for paying tribute to these artists and their creations!
Thanks for sharing. I didn't make it to SF this time and these are the best shots of the lobby that I have seen so far.
Amazing how an arrangement of color really brightens that lobby!
Marvelous collection of images... really impressive arrangements and you've photographed them beautifully! (thanks for stopping by my vacation blog... I chuckled over your comment about how far behind you are on posting your vacation images... one thing that has both helped and hindered my process from this recent trip is the use of a GPS attachment on my camera... helps to know where I took the pictures and jogs my memory... hinders because I get sidetracked exploring other images taken from the same spot as mine in order to figure out WHAT the building was in the picture... HA!)
These are beautiful!!!!
wow very impressive The flowers are gorgeous Great idea of the glas containers
These are fantastic flower arrangements. They are not “arrangements” really, they are artful creations of living plants. The colors, the forms – everything is exquisite and is just right for the lobby – making that lobby so alive and cheerful. It is hard to find the right terms – creative and elegant come to mind.
Dear Kala,
Yes, those arrangements towered over us!
Dear Ginnie,
I absolutely laughed! I was in heaven being surrounded by all the gay men. So fun. It reminds me of my old modeling days, when they usually only had one dressing room for all models, but it didn't matter that I was dressing and undressing in front of men :-)
Dear Debby Chang Di Bella AIFD,
What a shame you missed it. I hope you can make it to Miami next year. I love the ikebana in your header. Is it yours?
Dear Chesney,
Yes, that lobby became a whole other world when those flowers started arriving.
Dear Victoria,
Getting engrossed by all the beauty and wisdom is one of the most enjoyable aspects of blogging. It is also its peril.
Dear Richard of Amish Stories,
Thank you for your visit and kind words. I enjoyed reading about the Amish food stand on your interesting blog.
Dear Kris,
I'm glad you agree!
Dear Marja,
I thought the glass containers were a fantastic idea also. Thanks for stopping by and leaving word. Welkom bij Dutchbaby!
Hi DB,
yes, the "arrangement" on my blog header was a project done in a workshop given by Hitomi Gilliam. Thanks for the compliment!
Dear Vagabonde,
Yes, those flowers were all that you describe. I enjoyed watching them assemble them.
Dear Debby Chang Di Bella AIFD,
Hitomi is a true artist - her presentation this year was a inspirational as ever. A few years ago, I won one of her arrangements in a raffle during a seminar she offered in Half Moon Bay.
