Crochet Coral Reef Sculptures Explain Mathematics

Image from here.

My thanks to Patricia Powell Kessler for posting this TED video on the sidebar of her blog. This talk appeals to me on so many levels. Margaret Wertheim discusses marine biology, the mathematics of hyperbolic geometry, textiles, folk art, environmental activism, and the passion of spontaneous creativity.

You would have loved the exhibition at the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History last February. Go to this blog link http://abyssalplain.blogspot.com/2011/02/hyperbolic-wonders.html
to see some of my snapshots and then click on the post title and it will take you to the museum page.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello! I think I've gathered from comments that you are the magic helper of Ruth our poetess who is busy concocting her collection for publication? If yes, then I am writing to say thank you :)
So lovely of you ...
I am a big admirer of Ted talks... My brother was asked to deliver one of the TEDx talks in Malaysia and although he hasn't been able to coordinate times yet, he may one day.
Isn't this freedom of accessing technology brilliant?

Dear Shaista,
Thank you for your kind words. I was the person Ruth called the morning of that post. I don't know how magic I was; I only opened up some possibilities. Ruth's talent will lead her project.

Your brother must be a special person to have been invited to be a TED speaker. Please let me know when he does deliver the talk.
