On the other hand, we could have taken the elevator instead which, believe it or not, is vintage 1910, original to the house, along with other cutting edge conveniences of the day like the laundry and trash chutes.
This wondrous little jewel box is decorated with verre églomisé walls by artist-designer Jane Richardson-Mack.
At the top of the staircase, Gale Melton made great use of the existing shelving and storage to create this gift wrap closet:
She ingeniously used gift wrap paper for the wall covering…
…and conveniently displayed all the tools for the task out in the open:
I especially like the men’s newsprint suit:
How nice it must be to have sufficient closet space to dedicate one entirely to whimsy and fantasy.

Love the puppet theatre! As for the garland, looks great now, but when it comes to dusting... no thanks! But then I suppose, if you can afford the garland, someone else is doing the cleaning!
I'm in heaven with the gift wrap closet and the puppet theater. I have such a thing for puppets. Jeffrey and I have a wish list going for the house we hope to build some day. On it is a gift wrap station in my enormous laundry room. Heaven!

Love the gift wrap closet too. My grandma had a room with a sign on the door: BOXES. I never saw it, since she died when I was four, but my older sisters were much impressed.

The garland was definitely unique and extremely well constructed (I'm sure it was a challenge) but I felt it was visually a bit heavy for the space. Dust catcher - definitely!
